"Perfection [in Yoga] is not achieved by wearing the apparel [of a yogin], or by talking about it. Practice alone is the means to success. This is the truth, without doubt."
Hathayoga-Pradipika I.66
The Svadhyaya Program of Self-Study at Yoga Mandala is but one path, amongst many, that guides and assists the student of yoga in their process of self-investigation. The sole intention of the Svadhyaya program is to provide the student of yoga with additional tools that might enable him or he to take their practice (or teaching) to the next level. The commitment is to PRACTICE, and to practice daily as a means of exploring and gaining insight into Self. This work fosters dedication, perseverance and Indomitable Spirit.
The Svadhyaya program includes:
- Asana and pranayama practices (disciplines of body and breath)
- Hands-on as well as verbal techniques and cueing
- Introduction to Sanskrit terms and terminology
- Exploration of the multidimensional nature of the yogic path through Patanjali's Yoga Sutras
- Examination of the yogic view of anatomy (darshan)** with reference to and application of Western perspectives.
The 2007 / 2008 Svadhyaya Class explores the foundational principles of movement and energy associated with yoga asana and breath through practice and adjustment to prevent, and work with physical injury.
Svadhyaya meets on the last Friday of the month from 5:30-7:30pm.
